A journey in trying to live life healthily (not always succeding) while serving our Almighty God, being a helpmate to my husband, homeschooling three children, cooking from scratch (most of the time), and being transparent with my friends whom I dearly love.

A couple of years ago I came to a mountain on my path. I asked God to move the mountain; He had me camp beside it. Earlier this year He led me around the mountain and I came upon a river. By this time after getting used to the mountain, I wanted to walk through these waters to pass through, continuing on my path. But God did not part the waters to allow me through. He said wait. I waited beside those waters until this recently. I got up expecting God to turn me to a different direction without looking back. I knew months ago I would not be crossing those waters. In February I received confirmation of that through a good friend, our pastor’s sermon, and words of friends from church. On the way home from church one day I prayed about what I was supposed to do - how and when I was to turn from these waters and take a different path. After years on the same path, I knew it was going to be bittersweet and strange - not just for me, but for my family - to...
If I were given a pop quiz on car maintenance, I think I would get most of the answers right. Especially on true or false questions like the following. True/False: It is important to check the oil before driving. Yes, I think i would pass the quiz. However, my problem comes in the practical application. Did you know if you run out of oil that your car will overheat and after getting your car to the parking lot behind McDonald's you will be stranded with three children with nothing to do but to walk to McD's let them play in playhouse? Yes… It's true. And of course you will have to call a friend to get the food out of your car because it is your turn to provide the main dish for a ministry in which you are involved. Well, what could I do? I could gripe and complain and be all down about it. Or I could take the time in McD's to rest and read a good book that just happened to be in my purse (I had to take a child to a doc...
This year I got to take the summer off. Now, my friends who know what all I did this summer would say that is a crazy, unfactual statement. I took my children strawberry picking and we made a dozen jars of strawberry jam. I went with my youngest to CentriKid (a children’s camp) in Alabama. I went with my older two on a Student Life Missions camp in North Carolina. I spent a week in South Carolina visiting family (and a good friend). While in South Carolina I purchased a lot of peaches, which means I made lots of jam and some canned peaches. I took children to various birthday parties. I spent time with my children and my chickens - and a little time running from a bossy rooster. I started our homeschool back up and I went to an out of town funeral. Physically, my summer was very busy, mostly good, and exhausting. But before you say it, no, I am not lying about taking the summer off. Compared to my summer, I did not physically do very much this past spring, but I...
