A journey in trying to live life healthily (not always succeding) while serving our Almighty God, being a helpmate to my husband, homeschooling three children, cooking from scratch (most of the time), and being transparent with my friends whom I dearly love.

A couple of years ago I came to a mountain on my path. I asked God to move the mountain; He had me camp beside it. Earlier this year He led me around the mountain and I came upon a river. By this time after getting used to the mountain, I wanted to walk through these waters to pass through, continuing on my path. But God did not part the waters to allow me through. He said wait. I waited beside those waters until this recently. I got up expecting God to turn me to a different direction without looking back. I knew months ago I would not be crossing those waters. In February I received confirmation of that through a good friend, our pastor’s sermon, and words of friends from church. On the way home from church one day I prayed about what I was supposed to do - how and when I was to turn from these waters and take a different path. After years on the same path, I knew it was going to be bittersweet and strange - not just for me, but for my family - to...
As some of you may remember, I have tried Weight Watchers several times. I had success after my first two children on Weight Watchers, except I always got pregnant while doing the program and had to stop the program. But when I joined again a few years ago after moving to Tennessee, I ran into some problems. First, I was still new to town, and the group did not quite have that welcoming feel to it. Second, we had already made the switch to more natural/organic foods. So I included eating 'real foods' or 'whole foods' within my POINTS and I was ostracized at the meetings because I would not drink the diet drinks or eat the 'low-fat' and 'fat-free' versions of food. And finally, when Weight Watchers switched to the POINTSPlus program, I began gaining weight. I want to lose weight, but I don't want to do it by eating chemicals, processed foods, or genetically modified foods. So this month when a group of my friends decided to join Weight Wa...
During my many days (months) of illness, I have discovered something important. There are two kinds of friends: true friends and friends of convenience. We each get to decide what kind of friend we are, and when you go through something where you need to depend on friends, you will see which kind of friends you have. Friends of convenience say to let them know if you need anything - and they may or may not mean it - but if it interrupts their life, they will not be there. These are the friends who may check on you every once in a while through Facebook or text, but although they live near you, they never stop by. If you need something, they will not be there because it would be an inconvenience to them or their family. These friends will be friendly to you, but not true to you. A true friend is there for you through thick and thin. She will set aside her homeschool schedule to welcome your children, knowing this is just one day. She sa...
