On Coming Alive...

 There are a lot of organizations, life coaches, and even songs inviting people to come alive. In April I hosted a leadership training event for a ministry in which I was involved at the time. Most of our training was on a DVD.  There was one speaker on the DVD who said “everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.  Anyone who loves anyone knows God and has been born of God… anyone who has interacted with love at all knows God and has been born of God.”  He continued later to say he wants to be the kind of person that no matter what people are doing in their world/in their life they knew that he is a person who believes in God and saw God in them. “Because if they love they know God and are born of God.”

Jesus says, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” (John 14:6).

Scripture also says:

“No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. By this the children of God and the children of the devil are obvious: anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who does not love his brother.” (1 John 3:9-10)

“Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and whoever loves the Father loves the child born of Him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and observe His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome. For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” (1 John 5:1-4)

Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and have come from God, for I have not even come on My own initiative, but He sent Me. Why do you not understand what I am saying? It is because you cannot hear My word. You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies. But because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me. Which one of you convicts Me of sin? If I speak truth, why do you not believe Me? He who is of God hears the words of God; for this reason you do not hear them, because you are not of God.” (John 8:42-47)


We have all been loved – the Bible tells us in John 3:16 that “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…,” and Romans 5:8 tells us, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Everyone has interacted with love in some way – both here on earth and when God knit us together in our mothers’ wombs.  However, we are not all God’s children.  We are all His creation, but we do not all know God nor are we of God until we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior (John 1:10-13). Immediately upon our salvation we are adopted into His kingdom and become joint-heirs with Jesus (Romans 8:16-17).  

I invite you to truly come alive.  Read the Bible to learn about who Jesus is and the abundant life only He can give.

A couple of years ago I came to a mountain on my path.  I asked God to move the mountain; He had me camp beside it.  Earlier this year He led me around the mountain and I came upon a river. My Weight Watchers is Not the Same as Your Weight Watchers

As some of you may remember, I have tried Weight Watchers several times.  I had success after my first two children on Weight Watchers, except I always got pregnant while doing the program and had to stop the program.  But when I joined again a few years ago after moving to Tennessee, I ran into some problems.  First, I was still new to town, and the group did not quite have that welcoming feel to it.  Second, we had already made the switch to more natural/organic foods.  So I included eating 'real foods' or 'whole foods' within my POINTS and I was ostracized at the meetings because I would not drink the diet drinks or eat the 'low-fat' and 'fat-free' versions of food.  And finally, when Weight Watchers switched to the POINTSPlus program, I began gaining weight. What is Christmas really about?

I find it ironic that some people who celebrate Halloween also want to spread the rumor that Christmas was not originally about Jesus (especially those who do so with a Christmas tree and nativity scene up in their homes).  Christmas has always been about Jesus' birth.   Christmas has not always been celebrated on December 25th - religious leaders could not agree on a date.  According to the History Channel, Pope Julius I chose December 25th - and the holiday was then called the Feast of the Nativity.  Other sites credit other people with selecting the date, but all the sites I found agree Christmas was originally called The Feast of the Nativity.   It is commonly held December 25th was chosen for Christmas to absorb the many pagan celebrations that centered around the winter solstice.  However certain sites paint a vastly different scene on why and how the holiday was celebrated than other sites.  The sites I keep seeing people point to say t...
